Bronze preservation by using composite hydrogel coating-loaded corrosion inhibitors

Abstract Bronze has been used for various applications since ancient times, and therefore, its preservation is critical. However, preserving bronze challenging. The traditional inhibitor sealing method limited by toxicity effects. In this study, a benzotriazole (BTA) loaded with composite hydrogel of sodium alginate cyclic-peptide-grafted β-cyclodextrin was prepared. chemical structure the components coating characterized through Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. microstructure on bronzeware scanning electronic microscopy. thermal analysis confirmed that BTA introduced successfully into hydrogel, exhibited liquid crystalline property because mesogenic unit—cyclic peptide. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy revealed modified β-cyclodextrin-loaded considerably improved corrosion resistance. certain range, higher BTA-loaded Cyc-g-β-CD ratio, stronger protective effect gel coating. conclusion, inhibitors can improve resistance coatings.
